Where to begin...
My name is Wendy. I was born in Chicago, Illinois, to M. Sebek and L. Bolek. (I am not listing their full names to protect them. They are very private about their information.) I was born on December 6th, in Cook County Hospital there. After that, My father joined the Army. I became an Army Child. He went on to have a career for 27 years and received a Legion of Merit when he retired from JAG in 1998.
I travelled with my parents from 1970 to the middle of 1993 while my father went up the ranks in the Army from Private to Cheif Warrant Officer Four. I have lived in Bitburg/Spangdalem, Germany and I lived/went to school in Ansbach, Germany; Indianapolis, Indiana; Hinesville, Georgia; Killeen, Texas; and Heidelberg, Germany. As an Army Child, I can tell you that I enjoyed the benefits of being so, but there are many pitfalls to this situation. You move a lot...not as much now as then, but you still move. It is rather difficult to make friends, because when you make them, you tend to leave them in two-three years after you make them. I had hard time, but I found out that I am stronger and more flexible than most females. I don't have a hometown, except where my family is at and where I was born. I don't claim to be from any place except where I was born...Chicago, IL. This is what most 'true' Army Children will usually do. Some will claim the city they end up is as where they are from.
I earned a High School Diploma at Ellison High School in Killeen , Texas. (I was told I was 54 of 435 students in my high shool class-1989.) I have enjoyed being listed in the publication, "Who's Who Among American High School Students" twice and I've earned an Associate's Degree in Marketing Management and Certificates in Phlebotomy, CNA and Healthcare Assistant at Savannah Technical College at the Liberty County Campus in Hinesville, GA. Mostly due to my travelling, the Marketing Management Associate Degree took me more than 5 years. It was fun attending college in Killeen, TX; Heidelberg, Germany; and Hinesville, GA, as a result of my travelling due to the United States Army.
I have been married, divorced and an army spouse for 6+ years. I can tell you that it was an enriching experience. I found out that I can make a difference in other people lives and the Army made my ex-husband and I won a "Family of the Year" for Ft. Jackson, in 2002. There were 56 families that were given this distinction that year. He is remarried and they have a little girl. They are presently Texas. That's okay. We didn't work out. You live and learn. I've learned valuable lessons that I carry with me even to this day. I created two wonderful websites while married. They exist besides my own at geocities.com/ravet2000 now http://swixl-ravet2000.yolasite.com/. The other two websites are included on that page as well-Central Valley Self Storage at http://cvselfstorage.yolasite.com and The Army Connection at http://armcon-brave.yolasite.com/. Have a Wonderful Day!
